Is ‘Kochadaiyan’ a prequel to Rana?

Well sources close to the project reveal that Rajinikanth's next film 'Kochadaiyan', directed by his daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth, is a prequel to the much awaited Rana.
'Kochadaiyan' is India's first 3D film with motion capture technology and director K.S. Ravikumar has penned the story, screenplay and dialogues for this film. The film is produced jointly by Eros International and Media One Global Entertainment Limited.
Post his illness, Rajni and his family felt that the actor might not be able to do a big budget venture like Rana, where he appears in three different roles. It is also said that post 'Kochadaiyan', Rajni might team up with director Shankar for the third time in their careers. After the completion of these projects Rana might go on floors; however nothing is confirmed yet.
Meanwhile leading lady of 'Rana', Deepika Padukone has gone ahead and signed Ayan Mukerji's 'Yeh Jawani Hai Diwanee' with Ranbir Kapoor.

'Mankatha' scores a ton

Today is an important day for Ajith and his fans. For the actor's 50th film 'Mankatha' has successfully completed its 100th day run today, besides winning the honour of being one of the top grossers of 2011.
In a message, producer Dhayanidhi Alagiri of Cloud Nine Movies has thanked everyone who had worked for the film. "Our special thanks to Ajith sir for his sincerity and dedication towards the project," he has said.
Actually Dhayanidhi, son of Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers M K Alagiri, wanted to hold a mega function to celebrate the success of 'Mankatha'. However, it is the habit of Ajith not to take part in public events prevented him from going ahead.
Directed by Venkat Prabhu, 'Mankatha', which has music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, had Ajith, Arjun, Trisha, Lakshmi Rai, Andrea Jeremiah, Anjali, Premgi Amaran and Vaibhav Reddy in lead roles. It was distributed by Sun Pictures.

Rajini ropes in Rahman

A R Rahman is said to have agreed to work for Superstar Rajinikanth's next film 'Kochadaiyan.' It is said that Rahman accepted the offer from Rajini despite his busy schedule.
The Mozart of Madras, who is a busy composer, has of late become increasingly selective about the projects he accepts as he has many commitments to honour abroad.
However, Rahman simply could not decline 'Kochadaiyan' as he is a self- confessed Rajini fan and he accepted to score music for the film.
Source say that Rahman is happy to be a part of another Rajini film, as his earlier ventures with the Superstar turned to be super hits ('Muthu', 'Padayappa', 'Sivaji', 'Enthiran', etc). It is expected that he would repeat the magic with 'Kochadaiyaan'.

The Dirty Picture : Movie Review

Story:Set in the 80s, The Dirty Picture is a tale of a strong-headed woman named Reshma (Vidya Balan), who can go to any extent to fulfill her dream that of becoming an actress in the South Indian film industry. Post a few hurdles, she becomes an instant sensation 'Silk,' a woman every man desires. But, on her journey to stardom, she eventually starts craving for true love and feels betrayed each time. She gets the first blow, when she misunderstands lust to be love in case of her all-time favourite actor and later a co-star Suryakant (Naseerudin Shah). She is almost trying to cope up when Ramakant (Tusshar Kapoor), a storywriter too disappoints her, though that's truly unfortunate, as he has no wrong intentions. She gets her final blow, when stardom too starts bidding a goodbye to her. Lastly, when her all-time enemy (Ebrahim) Emraan Hashmi, a director turns into her passionate lover, she encounters a sad death.
Story Treatment:  Expectations are bound to surface, when a film is hyped to no bounds. So, does The Dirty Picture live up to the anticipations? Well, the answer is a big YES. Narration is an art and story-writer Rajat Arora is surely a master at it. First of all, to translate a real-life story on celluloid isn’t easy, but Rajat unfolds the story of Silk with so much conviction that he leaves no room for loop-holes. The beauty of the film is though predictable, yet each frame springs up a surprise as Vidya displays various shades of her character, leading to some interesting situations. What adds to the euphoria is how the three men react to it.
Star Cast:Vidya, indisputably steals the show. This unmatchable talent blows one off with her tremendous entertainment value. So much so, that the other three male leads- Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor and Emraan Hashmi end up becoming mere supporters with due respect to their acting skills. Vidya carries those extra-kilos and gaudy costumes with oodles of confidence. Naseer impresses with various punches in his dialogues and what further does the needful, is his retro look which he carries with a great poise. Tusshar is strictly okay, thanks to his nerdy character. Emraan looks extremely at ease with his role and makes one fall in love with his charm that of a gentleman. Anju Mahendroo does her part well as a journalist.
Direction:Milan Luthria does justice to the beautiful scripting and screenplay writing of Rajat, barring the climax that lacks luster, especially after the director pulls off the entire movie with so much brillance. Luthria offers a spicy package with dialogues adding fuel to it. The direction is non-jerky, despite him switching from peppy to low emotions in frequent intervals. The portrayal of Silk’s intelligence through various situations, for instance, how she takes revenge from both Naseer and Anju Mahendroo by being a party blooper and eventually kissing Tusshar is a treat to watch.
Music/ Cinematography/ Dialogues/Editing:Music is top-notch. The breath-taking Ooh la la is already topping the charts and Ishq Sufiyana is no less, with its extremely soothing tune. Cinematography complements the direction and adds an oomph factor to the screenplay. Dialogues are noteworthy thus, in other words- the lifeline of the film. Editing could have been edgier, as the film seems quite lengthy.
3 Ups and 3 Downs: Screenplay, direction, performances and above all, the dialogues are the strengths of the film. Editing, absence of the much anticipated song titled Twinkle and a dull climax are the weaknesses.
Overall, a big thumbs up to The Dirty Picture, which is in its truest meaning, an entertainer. Highly recommended!

Mani Ratnam records song for his next

Mani Ratnam is ready to wield the megaphone after a break. His yet-to-be-titled film will go on floors very soon, before which the ace director wants to record all the songs.
"There will be six songs in total," say circles close to him.
"Mani, along with A R Rahman and lyricist Vairamuthu, has already recorded a song. It is a soft romantic number which has mellifluous music by the Oscar-Grammy winner and soothing lyrics from the Kaviperarsu," they say further.
Actor Karthik's son Gautham is making his acting debut with this movie and a hunt is still on for the heroine. "A new face may be the leading lady of this film. Mani Ratnam is yet to take a final call on this," the sources say.
To be produced on Mani Ratnam's Madras Talkies banner in association with a corporate house, the film, set in the backdrop of coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, has script by ace writer Jeyamohan. "Shooting will start soon,".

No recognition from my industry: Dhanush

"I'm actually blank about it. I'm trying to forget it and concentrate only on my shoot now. It hasn't become real for me. I'm not even taking it seriously," laughs Dhanush.
Being a National Award-winning actor and coming from a well-known film family down South, one would think Rajinikanth's son-in-law didn't need to worry about being recognised. But Dhanush insists on being called an actor first and informs that Kolaveri hasn't really got him recognition. "Nobody from my industry has spoken to me about the song... I haven't got any recognition from my industry," he says, adding, "I'm not a trained singer, I'm just a bathroom singer. I'm an actor first."
The song, which has garnered over nine million hits online, had been trending on Twitter for several days and has even been picturised in a video by Japanese women dancing to it, has undoubtedly become the new-age youth anthem. And Dhanush admits he's extremely flattered. "Now everywhere I go, I'm asked to sing the song. I'm aware of all the videos put up online. It feels nice to see people making their own versions of the song," he says.
The song is part of the Tamil film '3', directed by his wife Aishwarya Rajinikanth Dhanush. So is it tough to act in his wife's film? "No, it's like going to work for any other director. It's only work at workplace; we never mix the two," says Dhanush, revealing that they don't talk about work at home either.
The actor writes poetry and songs like "Kolaveri" in his free time. But his primary aim now is to make his directorial debut in Bollywood. "I have the script ready. I'm not familiar with Hindi as such, but I'm doing my homework. By next year end, I should start making the film," Dhanush signs off.

MAYAKKAM ENNA MOVIE REVIEW

There r few words i want to share..
Its a slow paced movie, from start to end. bt there is nt a single moment which is unnecessary.
According to Selva, its his best.
for dhanush, its his best-est ever..!!!
When he got national award, i wondered.
but now no words to say...mind blowing performance by Dhanush.
If he got a national award for Aadukalam, then he should get it thrice for mayakkam enna
as a friend, as a lover, as a husband, as a maniac.. so many severe moments effectively delivered.
Hatts off to Selva for such a wonderful film.
I hav 2 watch it once more for a detailed analysis.
I liked it more than Aadukalam.

Rating: 4/5
Verdict: commercially, its flop

All praises to Dhanush, Selvaraghavan, Richa Gangopadhyay, G.V.Prakash Kumar

swapna sanchari review

Kamal's" Swapna Sanchari" is not a bad movie. Its a one time watch Good movie. You cant say the theme is fresh. Becoz We have seen similar story lines and similar characters in many other movies. Script writer Gireesh Kumar hasnt gone out of his safe zone and tried anything different. The structure of the sequences has similarities with his previous hit movie "Veruthe Oru Bharya".
Well, about the movie, its about Ajayachandran Nair an NRI, played by Jayaram and how his life changes drastically through various circumstances. Many of the Gulf Malayali's will find this movie a little more interesting, as they might have seen people like Ajayachandran in their real life. Ajayachandran is someone who wants to make it big in life through business. As he was brought up in a very bad financial and social setup he wishes to live an exotic life. After his return to his home land after a highly successful NRI life, he is always bothered about his image and social status. These ego and superiority/inferiority complex leads him to a lot of troubles. Movie doesnt portray Ajayachandran Nair as a totally negative guy. He has a nice side. But his ego makes him a totally different man.
Kamal's direction is good. The screenplay is also smooth. Doesnt lag at any point. The humor in the dialogs were a little less. But the thoughtful dialogs were good. One thing that stood out in "Swapna Sanchari" is Azhagappan's Cinematography.
Performance wise, Jayaram has given his 100% to Ajayachandran Nair. I loved his performance towards the climax, especially combination scenes with Meera Nandan and that final song. Samvritha also did one more memorable worthy character. Innocent, Salim Kumar, Jayaraj Varrier and many others did their roles neatly in the movie. The girl who played the role of Jayaram's daughter wasnt up to the standard.
Overall "Swapna Sanchari" is a typical malayalam movie with family melodrama, social values and some natural fun element. Its a nice one time watch.
